Thanks to the many green advocates of eating organic vegetables and fruits; these oftenly unrecognized superstar foods are fast becoming mainstream celebrities of our dinner tables once again! Because of the alarming rate of early occurrence of chronic diseases and some cancers, consuming healthy amounts of organic vegetables and fruits, coupled with active lifestyle is literally fighting for your right for longer and dear life. Parents too need to do their best to try and introduce vegetables in their children’s diet. And if you are an adult who’s not trained to eat vegetables but is considering doing so, then vegetable juicing could be a wise alternative for you.
Who doesn’t want to live longer? Life, as they say, is short so why make it shorter? Yet modern lifestyle subjects our health to a probable early demise; unknowingly through our bad eating habits, lack of mental and physical activities and becoming a willing victim to stress. No wonder that the average life expectancy of Filipinos born from years 2000 up to 2012 is at age 70. Surely, this age is still considered young by any standard.
Isn’t it that when we plan our weekly menu, we make sure there are chicken, beef or pork in it, while the vegetable dishes, usually sautéed, are given just a day in a week? If the veggies get lucky they’d be included in a main dish made of pork or chicken; but then again they aren’t the “star” of the meal. Worse, we often treat the veggies as the humble “food extender” so we’d use less meat in the dish and therefore would cost us less to cook for the family. And isn’t it that we’d just include vegetables in our grocery list and just let them sit in the fridge for days and days until they are ready to rot before finally deciding to cook it, as again, a “side dish” and not as a main course? For the many, many health benefits vegetables give our bodies, how come they always only play second fiddle to the meats and fish that are served at our dinner table?
We sincerely praise the works and efforts of agencies and private groups that continue to promote healthy lifestyle – surely, “wellness” and “LOHAS” (or lifestyles of health and sustainability) both have gone a very long way! These movements have made people re-think healthy eating and lifestyle. These movements are actually asking you to fight for your health and right to live a longer life. Question is, while they do this for you, are you up for it?
